Many people are angry and bitter because they know for sure that somebody did something . . . that in reality never happened!
Some of the heaviest consequences in the Bible and in history have come because of misunderstandings. The Apostle Paul was accused of being frivolous, carnal, double-tongued and dishonest by people who simply misunderstood. In Joshua 22 the Children of Israel almost had a civil war because some of them saw with their own eyes an altar and just knew that God’s law was being violated. They were wrong.
Marriages have been destroyed, children’s lives have been devastated and churches have been split because of misunderstandings.
What can be done?
- Ask questions.
- Don’t make accusations based on your own presuppositions.
- Realize it is possible to misunderstand even what you see and hear with your own eyes and ears.
- Believe what your brother or sister in Christ says to you.
