Most of us, like people in the Bible, have some wrong emotions at some time. Moses in anger disobeyed God and smote the rock. Samson, mighty judge of Israel, was in love with Delilah, a Philistine harlot. Elijah was depressed. Saul was jealous. Pilate feared the people. The problem with those people and with us is that emotions are so powerful that we have a tendency to follow them--often to disaster!
To understand how to deal with wrong emotions, we must first learn:
- Why God made them
- What has happened to them,
- and, very importantly, WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED.
The example of great men and women of the Bible who have experienced victory in this area was that they never allowed the emotions to take precedence over the mind and the will. When a Christian learns to have the mind of Christ and puts that mind in charge of his will, then emotions can be a blessing instead of a burden. It is also then possible to live life normally instead of like one is on a wild roller coaster ride.
